Hands for Life Southern Bowling Green- Non-Profit Veteran Treatment Progam
Hands for Life Southern Bowling Green is a charter organization of a larger company called “Hands for Life”, a national non-profit. The teams consist of a family of chiropractors serving to make the world a healthier, more connected place. Our team understands the disparity in healthcare across the globe. There are some communities with access to excellent chiropractic care. There are other groups of people who have no way of receiving the benefit of chiropractic care. Our team came together to try and shrink the gap between the “haves” and the “have not’s”.
Dr. Elkins teamed up with founder Morgan Oberstein and her group and opened Hands for Life Southern Bowling Green in 2018. Dr. Elkins has made his specific mission in this area to serve:
1. Chiropractic Care for all purple heart recipients, all active military personnel and their families for free.
2. All other military personnel previously enlisted for a special rate of $150 per month.
3. All first responders for a special rate of $150 per month. (i.e. Firefighters, Police, EMS, etc). All Hands for Life members can add an additional loved one or family member onto their plan for only $50 a month. (Unless they already qualify for free care).
Why Hands for Life
doesn’t accept your insurance:
If you’ve ever wondered why we don’t accept Medicare or Medicaid you might be
interested in reading this. When we designed hands for life of Kentucky, we did
this with a genuine purpose to serve people who in my opinion are vastly
underserved. We look at our families and friends, blue-collar families, who at
the end of the day when they need help or healthcare, they find that they have
astronomical deductibles or generally poor insurance. You see, unlike Medicare
and Medicaid who have numerous options for help with little to no out of pocket
expense, these faithful hardworking families are doing their absolute best to
make ends meet and end up finding out that when their wife, husband, daughter
or son needs health care they can’t get it. Then, of course, there are those in
this specific division of Americans that because of their income level don’t
qualify for Medicare or Medicaid and certainly without question can’t afford
health insurance for themselves or their loved ones. They are stuck in this “No
Man’s Land”, left out, and overlooked!
We aren’t trying to disclude you if you have Medicare or Medicaid. We are simply trying to include a largely forgotten group. An additional point of understanding that is necessary to say is it is illegal to make discounted offers to federal beneficiaries such as Medicare or Medicaid. Not my rules, but we follow them.
We have 5 kids. My wonderful wife and I have experienced this firsthand. We strangely found ourselves in those difficult positions. We want to make sure that these people who have done their very best and work hard get the care that they need and deserve. So, we created a non-profit company. This company does not process insurance. Instead, it cuts into the typical cost of care from 60 to 80% off to make this an eligible option for these folks. Much like a gym membership, at these very low prices, people can afford to get rid of their pain and still function and more importantly continue to work and provide financially for their families. Which I think is FANTASTIC!
We cater to a specific group of people. This non-profit system is not for everybody. But where it does not fit, we are happy to refer you to those people who can more appropriately and even better provide services to you. I’m speaking to the ones who don’t fit the group fully supported by the industry today. I’m speaking to the ones who have been overlooked and forgotten. I’m speaking to the ones who grimace in pain and try to find a way to make it to work the next day so that a Milana or Michael have their basic needs met. They aren’t looking for “hand-outs”, they are looking for a hand up.
Those are the people that we extend an invitation and a helpful hand. We are reaching to let them know that they’re not forgotten and that we’re here to do what we can to help.
Now keeping in mind, a nonprofit still has to pay its bills. And so, the wonderful magnificent people who fill those walls as employees are not there for a paycheck. These are the ones who are providing those chiropractic services, that phone call, that special moment of listening to your explanation of overwhelming stressors, which care for each and every one of the wonderful people who walk in the door. They are there because they find honor in the mission and purpose of our non-profit company Hands for Life. It gives them great happiness to be able to fulfill this need in our city.
My hope is that, the next time you enter in those wonderful doors of Hands for Life that you enter with a warm and joyful heart and extend a word of courtesy to those fantastic employees and let them know how appreciative you are that they are helping. Because I know that their value in pay is far less than the value they give. They take your worries and concerns home with them nightly. They care! They share not only your pains but your victories.
Additionally, Hands for Life has an even greater mission – to serve our veterans. Our veterans and first responders do get special rate for themselves and their families because everything they have done for our country. Our men and women who have received a purple heart get taken care of for FREE. Families of my fallen warrior brothers and sisters on the battlefield, they get taken care of for FREE. And I’m very proud of that part of our mission.
If you are our patient and you don’t meet the previously described folks, you should feel a sense of belonging and pride too! Our patients are the ones that allow us to help these heroes who’ve been on the battlefield of war and those still on the battlefield. Your membership fees and contributions help to offset the expenses of caring for these families.
My hope is that someday will be able to take care of all our veterans for free. Until then, we stand to fill the need and the gap for those people that these words have resonated with.
Our mission is to provide effective pain-relieving service to veterans in order to reduce and eliminate the use of addictive prescriptions and drugs.“
